Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary: Cheetahs in India are slowly making a comeback, and Madhya Pradesh (MP) is playing a big role in this project. Recently, two cheetahs named Prabhas and Pavak were released from Kuno National Park into Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary. MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav released them on a Sunday. Where Were the Cheetahs Released?

- They are now placed in a 16 sq km enclosure at Gandhi Sagar to help them adjust.
- Later, they will be moved to a bigger area of 64 sq km at Rawalkudi.

- They were brought from South Africa to Kuno National Park in February 2023.

What Will They Hunt?
To ensure the cheetahs have enough prey, the forest department has brought many animals to Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary, including:
- 150 Chitals (spotted deer)
- 70 Chinkaras
- 50 Wild Boars
- 50 Nilgais (blue bulls)
Also, water ponds have been built at various spots to provide water for the cheetahs and other wildlife.

Where Is Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary Located?
- It is situated in Mandsaur and Neemuch districts of Madhya Pradesh.
- The sanctuary borders Rajasthan, near Rawatbhata in Kota district and Bhainsrorgarh Sanctuary in the north near Chittorgarh.
Because of this location, cheetahs may soon roam into Rajasthan too.
Inter-State Cheetah Conservation Area
Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are working together to create an inter-state cheetah conservation zone. This will allow the cheetahs to:
- Roam freely over 1300 square kilometers of protected area.
- Enjoy a wider natural habitat with plenty of prey and natural features.
