Growing Tourist Footfall at Ambardi Safari Park
The Ambardi Safari Park, located near Dhari in Gujarat, has become one of the state’s most popular wildlife attractions. With the festive season of Diwali bringing in a surge of visitors, the forest department has decided to extend the lion viewing hours and increase transport facilities for tourists.
Every holiday season, hundreds of wildlife lovers gather here to experience the thrilling sight of Asiatic lions in their natural habitat. This year, the crowd has grown even larger, prompting authorities to make significant changes to ensure a smoother experience for visitors.
Safari Time Extended by Four Hours
Previously, the lion safari at Ambardi Safari Park was open in two sessions — from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and then again from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Due to the overwhelming number of visitors during Diwali holidays, the forest department has now extended the schedule to allow continuous lion viewing from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, adding a total of four extra hours for tourists to enjoy the safari experience.
This extension means visitors now have more flexibility and can plan their trips throughout the day without worrying about missing the limited morning or evening slots.
More Buses Added for Tourists
To manage the rising number of tourists, six additional safari buses have been deployed. Earlier, only five safari vehicles operated inside the park. Now, with a total of 11 safari buses, the authorities aim to reduce long waiting times and ensure that every visitor gets a chance to explore the vast and scenic wildlife landscape of Ambardi Safari Park.
The added transport capacity has also helped the park maintain order during peak hours while minimizing overcrowding near the lion viewing zones.
Wildlife at Ambardi Safari Park
The Ambardi Safari Park is home to a fascinating variety of wildlife species. At present, six Asiatic lions live inside the park, offering visitors a rare and exciting chance to see these majestic creatures up close in a natural forest setting.
Apart from lions, the park also shelters leopards, nilgai (blue bulls), blackbucks, and various species of deer. Occasionally, visitors may also spot pythons and other reptiles during the safari.
Each safari route lasts around 40 to 45 minutes, providing an immersive experience of the park’s lush greenery and vibrant ecosystem. The drive offers panoramic views of the dry deciduous forest, giving travelers a glimpse into the region’s rich biodiversity.

A Major Boost for Eco-Tourism in Gujarat
The increase in safari hours and transportation facilities marks an important step in boosting eco-tourism in Gujarat. Ambardi Safari Park, part of the larger Gir conservation area, provides a sustainable alternative for those who wish to experience the thrill of a lion safari without visiting the crowded Gir National Park.
By enhancing visitor facilities and extending operational hours, the forest department is encouraging more tourists — both from across India and abroad — to explore this lesser-known yet beautiful wildlife destination.

Visitor Experience and Management
The extended timing has already started receiving positive feedback from tourists. Families and wildlife enthusiasts appreciate the convenience of flexible hours, shorter queues, and improved viewing opportunities.
Forest officials have also ensured that all safaris maintain strict safety and environmental guidelines. Trained guides accompany each group, offering valuable information about animal behavior, local vegetation, and the importance of wildlife conservation.
